When we go to the dental hospital for dental implants, the doctor often asks us to take oral CBCT film. What is oral CBCT? Why do you take CBCT for dental implants?
What is Oral CBCT?
Oral CBCT (Cone beam CT, referred to as CBCT), that is, the conical beam projection computer recombination tomography equipment, the principle is that the X-ray generator with a low ray amount (usually the bulb current is about 10 MA) around the projection body to do ring digital projection; Then the data obtained in the "intersection" after multiple (180-360 times, depending on the product) digital projection is "reorganized" in the computer to obtain high-definition three-dimensional images.
Oral CBCT completely solves the problem of image overlap and distortion of traditional oral X-ray equipment such as intraoral dental film machine and dental panoramic machine. It can observe the bone density of the gum, the height and width of the alveolar bone itself in 360°, which can not only reconstruct the structure of the entire craniofacial region, measure the maxillofacial bone structure, but also reconstruct the fine anatomical details.
It can help doctors easily and intuitively discover a variety of hidden dental problems, making doctor-patient communication simple and efficient.
Why do we need to take CBCT film for dental implants?
For dental implantation, before the operation, it is necessary to evaluate the bone and bone mass of the patient's jaw bone and grasp the location of mandibular neural tube, sinus and other important tissues, and then determine the feasibility of implantation surgery and parameters such as the type, size, implant location, implant path and implant depth.
However, these parameters can only be obtained by CBCT imaging, which can be used to examine the patient's gum before dental implantation, so as to accurately measure the width, thickness and height of alveolar bone, bone density, and the location of important facial nerves, blood vessels and sinuses.
The implant doctor can not only see the three-dimensional image of the alveolar bone directly on the computer, but also switch different perspectives to observe the position relationship between the soft tissues, avoiding the dangerous area in the surgical plan, and ensuring the safety of the operation.
With the help of 3D design software such as Simplant, Nobel clinician and 3shape, the implant doctor can assist in the design of implant surgery, make the implant guide, accurately control the position, direction, length and diameter of the implant, and maximize the use of the patient's existing bone mass. To optimize the location of the implant and avoid the complications such as facial nerve paralysis and sinusitis caused by accidentally destroying the anatomical structure of nerves and sinuses during the implant operation. The implant surgery is safer and more convenient to ensure the success of surgery and later repair.
In addition to the application of implants, CBCT can also be used in maxillofacial surgery, endodontic treatment and orthodontic treatment.
